Funds

Today marks an exciting development at Thomas Murray IDS Australia and New Zealand, as we announce the Australian release of our multi-purpose software tool SupplierSelect for Financial Services (SupplierSelect). SupplierSelect is suitable for Australian Superannuation Funds with in-house investment teams and will help them appoint, monitor, and manage financial services providers. It is designed for business leaders as it provides audited transparent decision making.

My colleagues and I have been uniquely privileged to see a wide range of Fund operational challenges on a regular basis. One that is very familiar to us is an Institutional investor making major procurement decisions or monitoring key service providers with the use of an in-house spreadsheet. The administrative challenges of drafting, issuing, re-issuing, and scoring complex due diligence questionnaires and policy reviews can be formidable.

The way that collateral is being used, and indeed needed, in financial markets has altered significantly since the financial crises. With the central role handed to CCPs in markets, the majority of trades now need to be collateralised in one way or another.

On the back of a hugely successful post-trade roundtable for funds event in London in February, Thomas Murray are delighted to announce our next event, Post-Trade Roundtable on Regulation in 2016: What does this mean for the Buy-side?

The event provides Management Companies and Depositary Banks in Luxembourg an opportunity to come together and share their approaches to monitoring their post-trade exposures in a changing regulatory environment.

Fund managers have traditionally based their funds offshore to ensure they can distribute their funds to investors everywhere without worrying that the income and capital gains they generate might be taxed at a higher rate than their investors appreciate. ACS, the as yet little noticed onshore vehicle created by the UK government and tax authorities, might be about to rewrite that logic.

Ed Turner of HSBC provides an overview of ACS, the new UK fund vehicle:
